Boeing working with AT&T for Multimillion Dollar contract

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced today that The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) has selected AT&T to be its primary telecommunications provider. The contract calls for AT&T to provide advanced network and wireless services to help Boeing enhance its business processes and increase productivity. The value of the five-year contract is estimated at more than $400 million.

255 Percent Increase in Barack Obama Campaign SMS Text Messaging

Obama made wireless history when it announced via an SMS text message to supporters that Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Biden would be Obama’s pick for vice president. Traffic on Sprint’s (NYSE: S) short code for the Obama campaign rose 255 percent following the announcement, which was texted shortly after 3:00 a.m. EST.

This marks the first time that a presidential campaign has used an SMS text message to announce a vice presidential running mate. According to CTIA, the international association for the wireless telecommunications industry, more than 48 billion text messages were sent each month in the United States as of Dec. 2007.

UTStarcom Blitz available for sale at Verizon locations

Verizon Wireless today launched the Blitz. Once again, Verizon has hidden the true manufacturer of the phone , UTStarcom, from any marketing and promotion materials. Verizon continues to brand both UTStarcom as well as HTC devices under their own brand name.

The Blitz is a mid-range phone with a unique design. Reminiscent of the XV6600 (et al), it features a vertical-sliding QWERTY keybord . However, as a non-smartphone, the device is aimed at competing against T-Mobile’s Sidekick family of phones.

The Blitz features V CAST Music and Video support, Bluetooth , and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Verizon will offer the phone on both postpay and prepaid accounts, despite previous intentions to only offer it as a prepaid phone. It is currently available for $69.99 with new two-year agreement.

New Nokia 8800 Price says it all LUXURY

Besides the RAZR, few handsets have milked longevity like Nokia’s 8800 slider — first introduced in April 2005 (spied in March). Unlike RAZR, however, the 8800 somehow manages not to annoy… too much. The latest Carbon Arte model brings 3G, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 4GB of flash memory, and OLED display with anti-fingerprint coating. Fine, but it’s the rocket-esque carbon fiber, titanium, and stainless steel materials that help push the price tag to €1,100 (that’s about $1,600) before taxes and of course, carrier subsidies. Expected to brazenly appear in the smoking dens of Europe’s finest gentlemens’ clubs sometime in Q3.

Sprint HTC Diamond release date in August

Over here in the United Kingdom, O2 is preparing to offer the HTC Touch Diamond to the British mobile public; the net whispers are saying that over in the USA, Sprint will re ready to offer the HTC Touch Diamond to the American mobile public.

Well, that is according to an article in The China Post, which states HTC is ready to sell their HTC Touch Diamond via SpriNextel nt in August.

The US has seen the CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond baring the Sprint logo, they’ve seen in go to the FCC, and they know it’s only a matter of time before Sprint release it.

So doesn’t this simply add up to the fact that Sprint will be getting the HTC Touch Diamond anyway? Whether it will actually be August we’ll just have to wait and see, but I think Sprint isn’t going to hang off forever.

Sprint to award customers 18.2M for early termination fees

Alameda County Judge has ruled against Sprint Nextel in a class-action lawsuit, awarding customers $18.2 million in restitution for early termination fees. “Though the decision could be appealed, it’s the first in the country to declare the fees illegal in a state and could affect other similar lawsuits, with broad implications for the nation’s fast-growing legions of cell phone users. The judge - who is overseeing several other suits against telecommunications companies that involve similar fees - also told the company to stop trying to collect $54.7 million from other customers who haven’t yet paid the charges they were assessed. The suit said about 2 million Californians were assessed the fee.”

In-Flight Cell Phone use pushed for approval

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a proposed bill that would ban using cellular phones during flights in the U.S. Cellular calls in flight have long been illegal because of concerns about interference with both aviation systems on board and cellular networks on the ground. But some regions of the world are now moving ahead with in-flight calling systems. Earlier this year, Emirates Airline began offering an in-flight cellular service, and the European Union recently opened the door for countries to hand out licenses for offering such services.

It would need to be approved by the House, the Senate, and be signed into law by the President before it could be final. Currently, the FAA and FCC have placed a ban on cellular calls made during flights.

Nokia N96 Q3 prediction

Nokia recently announced that they would be launching their Nokia N96 flagship successor alongside the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 businessphones in the third quarter. The Finns made good on their promise to bring the much-anticipated enterprise handsets to market in Q3 2008, so now we turn our attention to Nokia”s new hotness - the Nokia N96.

Rumors are swirling around the UK indicating that Espoo is planning to out their Nokia N96 in October - dethroning Nokia’s current N-series flagship, the Nokia N95. ElectricPig is reporting that they’ve gotten some sort of confirmation from Nokia that the Nokia N96 will be launched in the UK on October 1, just in time to make the Q3 launch window that Nokia promised.

With 16GB of onboard storage, 5 megapixel Carl-Zeiss camera, WiFi, 3G (HSDPA), GPS, and mobile TV under the hood, the Nokia N96 brings glossy-chic to the dual-slider design that made the Nokia N96 so popular. And, with improved build-quality lending a more refined feel to the device, we can’t wait to get some long-term experience with the Nokia N96.

For now, don’t get your hopes up. But, the October release window sure does jive well with Espoo’s official announcements.
